About Tim
Dr. Tim Parker-Langston is a tenor and musicologist whose research focuses on practice-based methods in the fields of art song and opera. His approach, which he terms Reparative Practice Research, uses performance as a tool to actively resist canonical exclusion and to illuminate neglected repertoire.
He recently completed his PhD at Goldsmiths, University of London, with a thesis titled "My songs lie unheeded and unknown...": Fanny Hensel's Lieder in Reparative Practice Research.
A core part of his research is Hensel Songs Online, a free, open-access resource providing sheet music for all 239 of Hensel’s songs. Dr. Parker-Langston is also a member of the chorus of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and has sung solo roles there (including the Peasant Singer in Eugene Onegin) and at Opera Holland Park.
He co-produced and performed on the acclaimed album Hensel: Lieder, which includes 17 world premiere recordings. His research has been featured on BBC Radio 3, in a film by Mercury Studios, and at numerous academic conferences. He also founded the now-disbanded Manchester Opera Ensemble, for which he directed four productions.
